Jim Read is a London-based independent filmmaker and videographer, with a background in events videography, queer documentary and marketing for the beauty industry.

Jim's work has been largely varied to date, with personal lenience towards considering video as a medium.

They started their career at the University of East Anglia, where they studied BA (Hons) Media Studies; during this time Jim worked on various student projects, where they learnt composition, camera skills and narrative, taking modules in documentary, creative practice, queer theory and music video.

During this time, Jim also was largely involved in Norwich's queer performance community's events, where they filmed short pieces as a way of local artists' works. Throughout this, Jim also developed their corporate experience in video marketing as a part-time videographer for UEA SU, predominantly working on campaign and awareness videos for the union and events documentation to promote their nightclub and socials.
Whilst at university they started their work on 'Platforms', an ongoing docuseries of theirs focusing on queer artists' lives. This is still undergoing filming and editing.
They have also worked on various film sets as a runner, gaining their foundation in the film industry, working on fiction narratives to corporate commercials. In 2019 they were awarded the Adrian Wooton Mentoring Prize, affording them further mentoring from Film London.
Post-graduation, Jim has worked in marketing and design for Jecca Blac, a gender-free makeup brand with a strong connection to the transgender community and they are currently working part-time for Shooting People, an online network for independent filmmakers.
